I ask that you please read this & keep this in mind before contacting a breeder:

  1. If you live in an apartment, please ask your landlord if you are allowed to have a small dog (or if there are extra fees if you get one) before planning to take one home.
  2. If you or a relative living with you disagrees to wanting a chihuahua, or someone in the family has allergies, please do not get a chihuahua.
  3. Be sure that you can afford the costs of veterinary care, supplies, etc. It is likely that if you can't afford the cost of the dog himself, then you can't afford the ongoing supplies and care as well
  4. If you have small children, it is advisable to supervise their visit with the chihuahua as one or the other may get hurt, teach kids to be gentle & only play with the puppy while sitting on the floor.  I will only advise you to get a larger size pup if you have kids (5+ pounds)
  5. A playpen, baby gate, or some form of containment is mandatory for a chihuahua since they can hurt themselves with some household items, and get stepped on when not being closely watched
  6. Do some research and buy yourself some books on dog health, dog training, and especially books on the chihuahua breed.  I let people borrow my books if they come over to place a deposit, then they return them when they come back to pick up their puppy.
  7. Look into your local training programs out in your area for puppy kindergarten, a regular trainer, daycare if needed, so that you can get an idea of how much cost is for caring for a new dog before you get him.
