I ask that you please read this:

* if you live in an apartment, please ask your landlord if you are allowed to have a small dog before planning to take one home

* If you or a relative living with you disagrees to wanting a chihuahua, or someone in the family has allergies, please do not get a chihuahua

 * Be sure that you can afford the costs of veterinary care, supplies, etc.  It is likely that if you can't afford the cost of the dog itself, then you can't afford the supplies and care as well

* If you have small children, it is advisable to supervise their visit with the chihuahua as one or the other may get hurt, teach kids to be gentle

* A playpen, baby gate, or some form of containment is mandatory for a chihuahua since they can hurt themselves with some household items
